- Did you plan your magazine? If not, what have you learnt about the importance of research and planning?
I did not plan my magazine, due to not doing this I have
found out that most magazines have similar links in them, they all have one
main story which I have a large image on the cover page to show off, this is
normally the main reason someone would read the magazine I have also noticed on
the cover that they will have maybe one or two medium images which are smaller stories
but still draw the reader in more. I have realised I need to plan about what my
main subject matter is and how I can present that in the best way to the
readers which will draw them in more.
I have also found out that the contents pages of
magazines are quite similar, most contents pages have three to four images on
them and also have page numbers of the most important information in the
magazine they all also have a brief summary of what is the page has on it.
- What technology did you use to complete the task and how did you use it?
I have used PagePlus X6 to help me make my magazine,
I have used lots of different tools it comes with to help make my magazine
better and different. One of the tools I used was instant 3D this allowed me to
take my text and make it look 3 dimensional this gave my text a modern image
and can help grade readers attention. I also used different shapes and the mesh
wrap tool to help me make a trophy to use on my contents page. Also PagePlus X6
gave me lots of different backgrounds to use for my magazine and then change
the colours used so I could have a default background but be able to change the
colour scheme to something I would like.
- Did you encounter any difficulties? If so, what were they and how did you overcome them?
I have
not encountered any difficulty’s during this task, this might be I have used
this software and similar software’s before.
- How successful was your magazine? Please identify what worked well, and with hindsight, what would you improve/do differently?
I believe I have my magazine would have been successful
if I t ad ben published due to the fact it doesn’t look that appealing and doesn’t
look similar to any magazine I have seen before, I do think that my use of puns
on the cover page might have helped my magazine draw in some readers but the overall
appearance of the magazine isn’t something in my opinion I would have picked
up. Looking back I think I should have cropped my main subject our more and
used it as a background and brought everything else in front of it but not
hiding it, I also think I should have used had more points on the front page to
give something for the reader to get more interested with.
- What have you learnt from completing this task? Looking ahead, how will this learning be significant when completing the rest of your foundation coursework, do you think?
In his task I have learnt that a magazine needs to be
interesting yet sophisticated and not in any way childish or funny, it can be
comedic but not much. I have also learnt that you need to think of a main
subject beforehand so that you can focus on one main subject matter as this
will be the main reason that someone will pick up the magazine, I have also learnt
that the colour scheme should be two main colours that are used constantly as
it makes the reader focus on the name of the magazine/logo. This has been a
large learning experience for me and it will be very helpful for the reason of
my foundation coursework as it has given me a better idea of what to do for my
actual coursework and also has made me think about looking at lots of different
magazines and analysing what is different and the same with them and what I can
then use in my end product.
